How to ensure product brightness during injection molding of ABS plastic products

Many products made of ABS raw materials have certain requirements for the brightness and smoothness of their surfaces. Therefore, during the injection molding process, the brightness and smoothness of the products must be fully guaranteed. How can we ensure this? Specifically, we can ensure this from the following aspects.

  1. Mould

1) Ensure the smoothness of the mold core. There should be no scars, micropores, wear, roughness, etc. in the mold core cavity. If there are these problems, they must be repaired in time, because they will affect the glossiness of the product surface. For some companies with high requirements for smoothness, they can use the method of fine polishing of the mold to achieve it.

2) Ensure that there are no other impurities in the mold cavity, such as oil stains, water stains, mold release agents, etc.

3) Ensure that the product can be demolded smoothly. If the demolding slope of the plastic part is too small, it will make demolding difficult, or the force during demolding is too large, which will cause the product surface to be dull.

4) Ensure smooth cavity exhaust. There is usually air in the mold cavity. When the product is injected, it must be ensured that the air in the cavity can be discharged smoothly, otherwise it will affect the molding of the product and its finish.

5) Ensure the cross-sectional area of the gate and runner. If the cross-sectional area of the gate or runner is too small or changes suddenly, the melt will be subject to too much shear force when flowing in it, and it will flow in a turbulent dynamic flow, resulting in poor gloss.

2. Injection molding process

1) Ensure the injection speed. If the injection speed is too slow, the surface of the plastic part will not be dense and the gloss will be poor.

2) The cooling system should be perfect. For thick-walled plastic parts, if the cooling is not sufficient, the surface will be hairy and the gloss will be dark.

3) Fully ensure the holding pressure and holding time. If the holding pressure is insufficient and the holding time is short, the density of the plastic part will be insufficient and the gloss will be poor.

4) Appropriately increase the melt temperature. If the melt temperature is too low, the fluidity will be poor, which will easily lead to poor gloss.
