Introduction to PC material injection molding process

PC plastic is commonly known as polycarbonate. Because of its excellent mechanical properties, it is commonly known as bulletproof glue. PC plastic has the characteristics of high mechanical strength, wide temperature range, good electrical insulation performance (but the arc protection performance remains unchanged), good dimensional stability, and transparency.

It is widely used in electrical products, electrical instrument housings, and electronic product components. There are many PC modified products, usually with added glass fiber, mineral fillers, chemical flame retardants, and other plastics. PC plastic has poor fluidity and high processing temperature, so the processing of many grades of modified materials requires a special plasticizing injection structure.

PC plastic process characteristics

The process characteristics of PC are: the melt viscosity is less sensitive to shear rate, but more sensitive to temperature, there is no obvious melting point, the melt viscosity is relatively high, the resin is easily hydrolyzed at high temperature, and the finished product is easy to crack.

PC plastic injection molding process

In view of these characteristics of PC plastics, we should pay special attention to different treatments: to increase the fluidity of the melt, it is not necessary to increase the injection pressure but to increase the injection temperature. The runner and gate of the mold are required to be short and thick to reduce the pressure loss of the fluid, and at the same time, a higher injection pressure is required.

The resin needs to be adequately dried before molding to keep its water content below 0.02%. In addition, the resin should be kept warm during the processing to prevent it from re-absorbing moisture.

Not only reasonable product design is required, but also the molding process should be mastered, such as increasing the mold temperature and post-processing the finished product to reduce or eliminate internal stress. Adjust the process parameters in time according to the different conditions of the product.

When PC plastic is being injection molded, the operator needs to be familiar with the properties of the plastic itself in order to be able to mold it into quality injection molded products.
